A Little Bit About Us
Kimp's Kamp is a small, relaxing, family resort located on Yaquina Bay on the north shore of Dead Lake in the heart of Ottertail County's 1,000 lakes. It has been in the family since 1944 when it was purchased and renamed by Freda and Dallas Kimple (Kimp was his nickname) and their son, Jack. It is now owned by some of Jack's children and grandchildren who are hoping to continue its legacy. You'll find us three miles southwest of Dent, Minnesota on County Highway 35, about 200 miles northwest of the Twin Cities.
Some Interesting History:
Kimp's Kamp is located on the first platted land, Yaquina Bay, in Dead Lake Township, the last of 62 townships created in Otter Tail County. Yaquina Bay was platted in 1910 by Samuel and Carrie Suffron. It was originally part of a much larger acreage first owned by Charles Davis, Suffolk County, MA, who bought the land from the United States of America through the General Land Office in Alexandria, MN on April 1, 1871, thirteen years after Minnesota became a state.
Fishing, Swimming, & Fun
Dead Lake is excellent for fishing, water skiing, canoeing, sailing, and swimming. The shore line of Yaquina Bay is sandy with a gradual drop-off, providing a safe swimming area for children.
A new, large Rainbow playground system was installed in June, 2022!!
